Are you concerned about food security, food sovereignty and food resilience in your household and community?
Do you worry about what is in your food, where it comes from, how and by whom was produced?
Are you aware that our food system is weak and unsustainable, that a high percentage of the fruits and vegetables we consume in Surrey and White Rock travel thousands of miles to get here?
Would you like to have access to healthier, local and sustainable grown food?
Wouldn’t be nice to re-learn how to grow, preserve and use food in ways that reduce waste to zero and everybody has access to what they need?
If you live, work or have any business in Newton area, or if you are just passionate about sustainable food and want to find like-minded people to partner with and create projects, we need you!
The aim of these workshops is to raise awareness, survey the status of our local food system and, more than anything, proactively create a resilient and secure food system for all.
Here are the content of Day One and Day Two:
Day One: Concepts review:
What is Food Security? And how “secure” is our food system now?
What is Food Sovereignty? Do we have food sovereignty in Newton?
What is Food Resilience? How resilient are we?
Surveying our community: what are the challenges and the assets? What are the risks and opportunities?
We can’t create this “map” without you…join us !
Day Two: Filling the Gaps: Matching Skills and Dreams with Projects that create Solutions
Actively networking and creating draft projects for further exploration, partnerships and local business creation that benefit all.
