* Learn about existing food assets in your neighbourhood & explore potential garden space using maps and online methods.

Presenters:
Michael Denhamer is the Project Coordinator at Can You Dig It (CYDI). Michael has experience in food security, community empowerment, and organic food growing. CYDI engages people socially and economically through growing organic food and community food sharing. CYDI has created over 40 inclusive gardens, with over 1400 gardeners, across the Lower Mainland.
Stacey Rosa is a Community Service Coordinator with the City of Surrey’s Park Partnerships section. Stacey’s work focuses on programming, events and community engagement projects that foster positive use of park spaces. Stacey has been involved with community gardens since 2012, including the creation of two new gardens, several honey bee gardens, and most recently a small community orchard in South Surrey.

The Surrey White Rock Food Action Coalition (SWRFAC) is a collaborative group of local citizens, government agencies, and non-profit organizations that have come together around the goal of enhancing food security in Surrey. The long-term vision of the Surrey White Rock Food Action Coalition is that food policy be integrated into community decision making in Surrey and White Rock to enhance community food security.
The City of Surrey’s Sustainability Department is an active participant in SWRFAC and its Seeds of Change Surrey initiative. Surrey’s Official Community Plan commits to the following: “Improve access to healthy and affordable food, particularly in lower-income neighbourhoods, through the planning and implementation of community gardens, farmer’s markets, urban agriculture projects, community kitchens, neighbourhood grocery stores and food assistance programs, as appropriate.”
